Beauty Inspiration : Lisa Eldridge

Lisa Eldridge is one my most favorite make-up artists ever. Her body of work is just so stunning and flawless. She started her career in the hey day of the early 90's super model explosion when she was actually discovered by Cindy Crawford of all people!

Lisa has amazing You Tube tutorials where she demonstrates on everything from minimal make-up looks to more dramatic, vintage looks that I absolutely adore. Her series on vintage make-up just floored me when I watched it...she actually found original, un-used Biba make-up from the 1970's! Not that it would be safe to use nowadays (she emphasizes how she thoroughly protected the models skin from the make-up even though it is un-touched), but the packaging alone would be a thrill to hold and admire. A lot of the inspiration for my packaging at Naked Eye Beauty comes from Biba and also the Victorian Era-1920's make-up brands which she discusses with vintage collector Madeleine Marsh in videos 2 & 3 below.

If you are as obsessed with the history of make-up and fascinated by the beautiful packaging like I am, please check out all of these videos below...they will blow your MIND.

New Photos of ME!

I usually don't like posting photos of myself, but, I had such a fun day with my friends Brian Fletcher, Ed McGowan and Miss Sasha Darling I just had to show it off!

I needed some pictures for my brand, Naked Eye Beauty, so we frolicked in the fields of Orange County for a day and I pretended to be a pretty model.  HAHA. Enjoy!

New Photos : Sarah Chambliss

Recently did make-up & hair and photography for my friend Sarah Chambliss. I was going for a mid 60's Anita Pallenberg/Jane Birkin-album cover vibe, mixed with a little bit of a Scandinavian goddess that glorifies Sarah's beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes :)

Cure Dry Winter Hair with DermOrganic Shampoo & Conditioner and Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse

I have been on the hunt for the perfect moisturizing winter-time shampoo and conditioner for a couple of months now and just recently discovered DermOrganic's line of hair care products. I think the first thing that drew attention for me was that their main ingredient is Argan Oil. I absolutely loooove Josie Maran's line of skin care and make-up, and Argan Oil is a luscious oil that is the superstar of all of her products.
DermOrganics products are vegan, made without animal by-products and never tested on animals, contains no sulfates, glycols, DEA, MEA, dyes or food coloring, gluten-free, contains no artificial presersatives and is paraben free, contains no salt, sodium chloride or other artifical thickeners, and uses only certified organic Argan Oil, Sunflower Seed Extract and Grape Seed Extract as a natural preservative. The shampoo lather is lovely, smells great, and I never feel like my hair is left stripped and damaged. The Conditioning Masque that accompanies the Shampoo is just as luscious and leaves my hair in great spirits.

I have also been using the method of rinsing my hair after I shampoo with Apple Cider Vinegar to remove any leftover shampoo residue and to help seal my hair from roots to ends. All you need to do is have a 8 oz. cup on hand in the shower, pour about a tablespoon full of Apple Cider Vinegar in the cup, then fill to the top with water from the shower (or distilled for extra purity). Pour the Apple Cider Vinegar rinse over your hair after rinsing out all the shampoo and before you put on conditioner. It will smell "vinegar-y" at first but once you thoroughly rinse it out and follow with conditioner the smell will dissapate.
Since I have been doing this method the past month I have not had dry, frizzy and itchy/flakey scalp that I normally have in the winter! Try it out and let me know what you think.

NAMM Show 2012!

This past weekend I attended the famous NAMM show in Anaheim with my friend and client Jackie Kajzer, aka Full Metal Jackie. She asked me to help her with make-up and hair over the 3-day convention for a live webcast at the Dean Guitars booth. If you have ever been to a convention before, you know how crazy it can be with all the things to see!

The NAMM show is one of the biggest music conventions in the world that hosts MANY instrument companies as well as digital equipment for the music industry. I had never been before so it was definitely an amazing weekend filled with various awe-inspiring rock star sightings (Alice Cooper, Vinny & Carmine Appice, Bootsy Collins) and checking out the latest and greatest guitars and amplifiers.

White Apricot.com's Green Grab Bag

Want to try out some of the best natural, organic and vegan beauty products without spending too much money? WhiteApricot.com is offering a fantastic deal for beauty lovers with the Green Grab Bag, a monthly subscription where you'll receive a bag  full of sample size natural beauty products!

I just started subscribing the past month and received my first grab bag a few weeks ago. My favorite by far in the bundle was Juara's Sweet Black Tea & Rice Facial Moisturizer. I normally have pretty oily skin but in the winter it dries out drastically. This lightweight moisturizer, which I mix with a dab of Mychelle's Sunshield Coconut SPF 28, works great to balance out my wacky skin. Plus the scent is amaaaazing, reminds me of a creamy peach tea! If you go the Juara's website and just enter code WHITEAPRICOT15 at checkout you will receive 15% off your entire order....expires January 15th! You can also find more information and sign up for the Green Grab Bag subscription here.

My Rose Tinted Lip Balm will be featured in next month's Valentines Day themed Grab Bag. I am so excited and honored to be a part of this! It feels fantastic knowing that my lip balms will be traveling to all the organic beauty enthusiasts (like myself) across the country.

In other Naked Eye Beauty News, I also just opened a new webstore! Please check it out: www.nakedeyebeauty.com. Lots more organic, vegan goodies are coming out very soon. I am working on some collaborations with dear friends of mine and also consigning to some boutiques in San Francisco and possibly Washington DC. 2012 is shaping up to be a great year so far!

Current Beauty Obsession: EO Products Smooth Conditioning Serum in Wild Rose & Coconut

I discovered this treasure while browsing through Organic Beauty Talk's website recently. I was in the market for a new hair serum since my hair is so incredibly dry from the winter weather and nothing seems to help treat it.

I think what first got my attention was that it had Wild Rose and Coconut: two of my FAVORITE things/smells in the whole world. The ingredients are pretty stellar (jojoba, castor, avocado & olive oil...all organic) which are all really great for treating dry scalp too.

I like to put massage a few drops into my scalp and dry ends, maybe 20-30 minutes before I shower, then use a few drops when I style my hair and a few drops when its dry. You really don't need to use that much, the container is nice because it comes out really slowly, one drop at a time instead of just gushing out. I highly recommend this for those of you with chemically processed, curly, dry hair, and if you use a blow dryer/curling iron/flat iron like myself.

Current Beauty Obsession : Jane Iredale Pure Lash Extender & Conditioner

On one of my runs to Naimies in Studio City for some supplies for my make-up kit, I happened to get into a very fun conversation with a sales rep there who went above and beyond to fill me in on almost anything I needed to know about Jane Iredale cosmetics. I have been using the Pure Lash mascara, eyeliners and lipsticks for sometime now, but she just so happened to have a sample of the Pure Lash Extender & Conditioner that I had been eyeing. I always wondered if these things worked...I know Revlon, Maybelline and L'Oreal all have versions of it, so I was pretty stoked to be able to try out an all natural, chemical free one for a change.

I've been using it for a month now and I can totally tell the difference from when I use it and when I don't use it. Its really given a lot of volume and overall depth to my lashes and apparently it supposed to encourage growth as well. The length of my lashes is amazing! I also credit that to my intake of Biotin 5mg and Silica to help get my hair to grow (another secret I have been meaning to divulge ;). I encourage anyone who wants more volume, length and also conditioning care to your lashes to try it out. If you live in Los Angeles, stop by Naimies and ask if they have samples...let me know what you think!
